Begin Again

The only admonition

Worth a damn

To Begin Again

.

Something of our selves

Awakens after a moment of distraction

Lost in thought

A moment

A month

Or an era of our lives

And, we must, begin again

.

We’re lost in thought

Chasing an ill which never was

May never be

We rehash rivalries

Sparring and winning imagined arguments

Against apparitions of our minds

We see the folly

And then, we begin again

.

Those battling the very real foe of addiction

Call it a moment of clarity

It comes to us, unbidden

Yet, it always comes

Reliable old friend

Trusted to arrive eventually

But also, just as surely, to leave

To wriggle from our grasp

Slippery as a fish

Leaving us numb and dumb

Sleepwalking through our lives

And so, we begin again

.

How easily we forget

Our revelations

We feel found

And then lost

We must begin again

.

Sucked into distraction

Sometimes months without end

A great loss appears

And reminds us

To begin living again

.

What is this voice

That feels as though

It has always been

Inside waiting to arrive

To tell us

We must

Begin

Again.
